Don’t let the key ingredient deter you from trying this recipe. I never knew cottage cheese was high in protein until I went to the grocery store to buy the ingredients for this recipe. It is high in protein, has a mild taste, and is very creamy. Both make it great to add to recipes and smoothies to increase protein intake.
In this article, I will share with you the directions on how to make the protein cookie dough, what I learned, and tips for when you try it at home. Of course, I will share with you how I changed it to taste like some of my favorite cookie doughs.
THE BEST BENEFITS
Each edible protein cookie dough bite contains 15 grams of protein per serving. The added benefit that I wasn’t expecting is the fiber that is in the edible dough. The serving size is 2 edible cookie dough bites. This recipe makes 10 edible cookie dough bites.
THE INGREDIENTS
Protein Powder – I used the same protein powder that I had at home that I add to my smoothies – Orgain – Vanilla Organic Protein.
Cottage Cheese – I used regular cottage cheese. I was going to substitute this with low-fat cottage cheese, but I wanted to try the recipe with the regular cottage cheese before changing it up.
Vanilla extract – You don’t need much to give it that cookie dough taste.
Maple syrup – This is what gives it a distinctive sweetness. I used pure maple syrup.
Chocolate Chips – I used my favorite chips by Ghirardelli. I decided to use the mini morsels because I didn’t want the chocolate to overshadow the taste of this treat.
Almond Flour – This was my first time using almond flour, so I used the one that was at my local grocery store. (use almond flour made from blanched almonds )
(Don’t use regular flour in this recipe.)

WHAT I THOUGHT ABOUT THE COTTAGE CHEESE COOKIE DOUGH
At first, I was skeptical about trying this recipe because I had tried eating cottage cheese with fresh fruit before and didn’t like it all. I am happy that I was open-minded and gave this a try. These taste great. I will eat these at my 10 am or 2 pm snack times to assist me in reaching my daily protein goal. I can eat some of this edible protein instead of my cheese sticks or a pack of nuts that I usually eat. This is a great way to change up my snacks. I tried the Peanut Butter with the mini chocolate chips, which was great.
TIPS FOR MAKING THE COTTAGE CHEESE COOKIE DOUGH
- I do recommend that after you have make the dough that you let it sit in the refrigerator so that it will thicker up some more before forming it into balls.
- I tried this with unflavored protein power and vanilla flavored protein power.
- Don’t let the cottage cheese sit out before you make it. If you do the consistency will not be right.
- Jello Pudding now has sugar free puddings … these make a great adds in to change up the flavor.
- Overall, he did a really great job with this recipe, and I will be trying more of his recipes in the future.
- Use almond flour made from blanched almonds (Don’t use regular flour in this recipe.)
