How to Remove a Rust Spot from The Bathroom Counter

Have you ever had a rust spot on your bathroom counter and wasn’t sure how to remove it? Most people have and they end up discarding the item because of the rust. When I heard about that you can remove rust easy and without any harsh chemical I had to give it a try. In my bathroom the rust spot is on the countertop. For a while I just moved one of my decorative items on top of it so you can’t see it.

I couldn’t wait to try this to see if it would work because when I thought about removing it before I was thinking that I would need a face mask, to open my bedroom windows and having a fan on high to help with the smell of the chemical in the product that would be using to remove the rust spot.

Not anymore. This is so easy and can be completed with little time with a natural remedy.

Supplies

The juice from 1/2 of a Lemon

Baking Soda enough to make a paste

Scrub pad

Small piece of cloth

  • Always test the method of removal on a small, inconspicuous area of your countertop before applying it to the entire rust stain.
  • This will help to make sure there are not any adverse effects on the surface of the countertop.
  • If you try to remove the spot and it doesn’t come off, you may need to explore using a commercial rust remover.
  • When you visit your local hardware store, they can give you more advice on how to remove the rust spot on your surface and recommend any of the products that they sell.

Steps

  1. Combine the baking soda and lemon juice to form a paste that is consistency of honey.

2. Apply the mixture to the rust and let it sit for a couple of hours.

3. Scrub the spot with brush or a sponge. Since it worked so well on my test area, I applied the mixture to the entire area.

4. Then I rubbed it after it dried the next morning. Be careful with how long you leave yours on there. Mine is an old countertop that I will be replacing soon.

5. I rubbed it off with a washcloth. I had to apply some pressure. It was really surprised It worked.

This is what the countertop area looks like after I wiped it down and rinsed it off. You can’t even tell it was there.
