How to Patch a Hole in the Wall that is Bigger Than the Screw Size

Have you ever had a hole in the wall that needed to be repaired because a curtain rod fell from the wall. Mine was due to the heavy curtains and not having a support hook to support the long rod.

I didn’t know what to do at first when this happened to me. I originally thought I was going to have to move the curtain rod over and drill new holes in the wall.

When I removed the curtain rod and was getting ready to apply the premixed putty I came up with an idea to try to use a larger anchor screw.

Originally, I thought I was going to have move the rod over a little to the left, drill a new hole and then patch the old hole with some putty. But my mind which I absolutely love came up with a better idea. It told me to try a different size screw, which is bigger, and it worked.

Example of anchor screws

Supplies

  1. Anchor screw
  2. Screw driver
  3. Drill and drill bit

Steps

  1. Remove any loose paint or debris by scraping it with a putty knife
  2. Drill a hole in the wall for the new anchor screw
  3. Hammer the anchor screw in the wall
  4. Place rod holder on the wall and tighten the screw

Note: This was caused by having a long curtain rod with curtains that are heavy on it without having a support piece in the middle. My next project I will be going to my local home improvement store to purchase a curtain support piece in the middle.
